Projects

United States EnviroFuels, LLC. is currently in the process of developing a 20 million gallon per year sugar based ethanol plant in Highlands County, Florida using sweet sorghum as the primary feedstock. Sugar cane will be used to supplement the feedstock base in the winter months when sweet sorghum is not available. The facility will be designed for a future expansion to 40 million gallons per year. The process design technology for the Highlands EnviroFuels facility is based on a conventional Brazilian style sugar to ethanol plant which will be modified to meet Florida environmental regulations. The facility will be optimized to process both sweet sorghum and sugar cane as the primary feedstocks. The result is an ethanol production process which uses zero fossil fuels, has an energy balance of 8 to 1, is zero effluent and has a greater than 50% reduction of greenhouse gases. The plant will produce 20 million gallons of "low carbon" ethanol, also known as advanced biofuel. It will also generate approximately 9 megawatts of green renewable power for export to the local electric grid. The facility will also produce 45,000 tons of beverage grade liquid carbon dioxide for the local beverage industry along with a high potassium fertilizer. The plant will use zero water in the ethanol process. In fact, the plant will be a significant net water producer. U.S. EnviroFuels, LLC was awarded a $7 million grant from the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Farm to Fuel Program to be used for the purchase of plant and equipment for the Highlands EnviroFuels project. The project will engage local farm production of sweet sorghum and sugarcane. It is estimiated that roughly 25,000 acres of feedstock production will come from local growers within a 20 mile radius of the facility.
